Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.“ John 10:11
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is an independent Lutheran congregation made up of people who trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins and for life everlasting.
Jesus, our Good Shepherd, gave His life for the sheep by suffering and dying upon the cross for the sins of the whole world and rising again on the third day.
As Jesus’ sheep, we hear His voice by believing and teaching all that the Bible says. We follow Jesus by continuing to trust in Him alone for our salvation and by listening to all that He says to us in His Word.
Jesus Christ, God’s Son and our Savior, calls you too to trust in Him for forgiveness and life and to follow Him. He shed His blood for you upon the cross that you might be His own and be a part of His everlasting kingdom.
We invite you to join with us in hearing His Word and learning of the salvation He has provided for all people by His innocent sufferings and death in our stead.
Brief History of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
In December of 1996, God opened a door to begin a new church – a mission church – with its only purpose being to glorify God, minister to His flock and spread the Gospel here and abroad. This church would be a confessional Lutheran church, adhering to God’s Holy Word and rightly administering His Holy Sacraments.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church began meeting in Garfield, Ark., at the home of its first pastor, Rick Hawes. Its first service was held the third Sunday in Advent, with 11 people in attendance. Within a month, the little congregation was worshiping at Grace Hill Elementary School in Rogers, Ark. Soon after, 12 acres of land was purchased along Dixieland Road in Rogers. A groundbreaking ceremony was held, and construction on the present facility began in the fall of 1997.
The congregation dedicated its new building on Palm Sunday, April 19, 1998. It was also a confirmation Sunday for two of the congregation’s young members.
Good Shepherd Lutheran congregation has grown to more than 100 baptized souls and has been blessed of the Lord in many ways through the voluntary service of its pastors and members.
The congregation has regular Sunday morning worship services and also special midweek Advent and Lenten services. In addition to worship, the congregation offers Sunday School and Bible classes for all ages, confirmation classes, adult instruction, choir, instrumental music, a church library and participation in Lutherans for Life.
With its offerings, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church provides financial assistance to Lutheran churches and mission work in Korea, the Philippines and in India. One of the congregations in the Philippines is also named Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.“ Proverbs 3:5-6
